Jenna Meek, the facilitator of the TSY Workshops, has studied the nervous system for over 20+ years. She has trained directly with the pioneers of Trauma Sensitive Yoga, including Bessel van der Kolk (author of the Body Keeps Score); Stephen Porges; Arielle Schwartz. The Trauma Sensitive Yoga Program consists of 2 weekend workshops.
Research has shown that almost everyone at some point in life experiences a level of trauma. Trauma Sensitive Yoga increases self-awareness, self-regulation, resilience and compassion. The trainings are open to anyone who is interested in learning the tools available through the practice of TSY. In order to participate in Module 2, you must complete Module 1.

Drawing on the Polyvagal Theory and other contemporary models of nervous system regulation, we'll explore what happens to the brain and organs when we experience shock or prolonged stress, and what that might look like in our classrooms and communities. You will experience evidence-based strategies for restoring a sense of safety and social engagement, including different styles of meditation and mindfulness practices. We'll also distinguish trauma-informed and trauma sensitive yoga from yoga therapy, and apply principles and techniques to make your classes more sensitive to the mental health needs of all students. This two-day workshop explores how trauma-sensitive yoga strategies can enhance the resilience and encourage the freedom of movment. When individuals experience of trauma, it can impact their ability to attune to their body's internal messages resulting in lack of self-regulation and feelings of overwhelm. Yoga is shown to empower trauma-survivors by helping them reconnect with these sensations and take effective action in caring for themselves on and off the mat. In this two-day workshop, you'll learn how to notice and navigate a broad range of sensations and foster resilience. You'll experience and develop your own trauma-sensitive yoga sequences, for personal or professional use, integrating the grounding practices from module one with yoga poses taught in a typical class. The focus will be on teaching to sensation versus appearance, as well as, how to anchor the body and joints in safety to encourage rhythm and resilience. This training is suitable for all experience levels and backgrounds. Participation in first course is required.
